Year 2 Fire of London Enrichment Day
Dear Parents/Carers,
Over this half term the children have been learning about the Great Fire of London during their History lessons.
On Monday 10th November we will be running an enrichment day about the Fire of London. We have a visit from the Rainbow Theatre who will provide an interactive experience for the children. Through the eyes of Samuel Pepys the children will be transported back to 1665 & 1666. There they meet Charles II, explore the devastation of the plague and experience the excitement and panic of the Great Fire.
Part workshop part show, this fun interactive experience is perfect for Key Stage 1 learning. The children will perform alongside the actors whilst being immersed in the story of the Great Fire of London. Packed full of facts and colourful characters, this will embed their learning and be a day to remember.
The cost of this visit will be £8.30 per child and should be paid via your School Gateway account. The contribution is voluntary. We must tell you, however, that the school could not bear any of the cost of the visit without reducing its ability to provide the books and materials that are essential for its curricular needs. The theatre visit will not take place unless all parents, who are able, are willing to contribute. Should you have any difficulty in making payment, you are invited to see the Headteacher or School Business Manager in confidence, so that suitable arrangements can be made.
We would love the children to feel completely immersed in the day’s learning by dressing up as characters from that era, or as the fire (fire colours), or maybe a King like Charles II, or making a prop such as a building or a Pudding Lane street sign.
We are not expecting children to buy new outfits but be creative with what you already own.
Kind regards,
Miss Sandow and Mrs Chopin
