December at The Oaks
December at The Oaks Primary School and Nursery has been an exciting time for both the children and staff.
The children have been working hard on their Personal Development through various exciting activities. They have worked incredibly hard rehearsing and performing in some fabulous Christmas Productions.
Through these experiences, our children are building their confidence, communication and presentation skills to a wider audience.
This began with Nursery and Reception singing together some Christmas songs beautifully, Year 1 dancing and singing as part of a bigger performance where the Year 2 children took on larger acting roles with speaking parts in their excellent Nativity.
Year 3 and 4 united for their performance, ‘Groovin’ - The Nativity’, where they worked incredibly hard on their singing, dancing and acting skills.
Year 5 children started our Christmas celebrations, hosting a Carol Service at the local church, developing their confident voice in the wider community. As did the Key Stage 2 choir who have also been practising their singing during their lunchtimes to bring some Christmas Cheer to the local community. The Choir visited a local Assisted Living home as well as the local Nursing Home to spread some Christmas joy by entertaining the residents with some popular carols.
The end of term at The Oaks was finished off with the annual atmospheric Christingle service in which our Year 6 children presented our Year 3 children with a Christingle, welcoming them to the juniors - a real highlight of the season.
What a joy it was to watch all of the performances and the applause at the end of each production was testament to the hard work and preparation the children and staff had put in this month.
With Christmas being the season of giving, the School has held various fundraising events for both local charities and for the School Fund.
The school held a Christmas fair where children helped with the decision making of what stalls we should have and also assisted with the organisation. Pupil voice was an important part of the event ensuring it was a success. The school raised a fantastic £1377 for the school fund which will help to buy the ‘extras’ for the children.
Other fundraising activities took place such as Christmas Jumper day in which the school raised money for the local Greenaways Foundation, and collections and programmes sales at our Christmas Productions raised money for Golden Lion Children’s Trust. Both these charities are local charities who support some of our families as well as others in the Sussex area and The Oaks are enjoying working with to strengthen the school’s community links.
