The holistic needs of all the children at The Oaks are at the heart of everything with do at our school. The children follow a broad and varied curriculum which is carefully balanced ensuring that the key life skills of Literacy and Mathematics are central along with the wider life skills and knowledge needed to ensure that our children are successful and well equipped for the next stage in their life.
The wider curriculum at The Oaks is designed to help children problem solve, make links and develop their metacognitive abilities for themselves by exploring, investigating and making sense of the world around them. The curriculum is organised in to themes that are presented as broad open-ended questions. These themes are explored through ‘The Learning Pit’ and first hand experiences involving issues that are close to them and the community they live within. The themes are also explored at every level possible –personal, class, school, community, society. To help the children make links and see the bigger picture.
